Who is a the good
Lasik candidate?
First, you need to suffer from one of the conditions that
Lasik eye surgery can treat. The three main ones being
short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.
You must be over 18, not pregnant or nursing.
You should not have any disease or condition that
could make surgery less effective, or affect your
ability to heal quickly.
Lasik candidates also need to have their feet on
the ground. You’re trying to
reduce the amount you depend on contact lenses
and/or glasses. You're not trying to get rid
of them (although that could and often does
happen).
Who’s a bad Lasik candidate?
Quite a long list of diseases and afflictions can cause problems, although they may not result in a complete "don't do it" answer from your doctor.
They include diabetes, herpes, women on Hormone Replacement Therapy, pregnancy (planned or actual), cataracts, advanced glaucoma or asthma.
