Lasik Eye Surgery Complications

When you try to weigh the risk of Lasik eye surgery complications against the benefits of the treatment, remember one thing - Lasik is surgery.  There is always some sort of risk of complications in any kind of surgical technique.

Because you can correct your vision with eyeglasses or contact lenses, by choosing Lasik you are also choosing to accept a certain amount of risk.

That said, the success rate of Lasik eye surgery is going up all the time.  Most studies suggest that very few patients suffer lasting damage that seriously threatens their vision.

One of the best ways to avoid Lasik eye surgery complications is to choose an experienced surgeon. Research shows that as surgeons gain experience their “problem” rate drops sharply, normally to well under the 1% figure.

There is a difference between Lasik side effects, and Lasik complications. Complications relate to the things that can happen during the actual operation, normally a problem with the flap that is created in the eye.

It is also possible that the surgeon will over- or under-correct the eye or eyes, making a second treatment called an enhancement necessary.

Lasik side effects, on the other hand, are usually temporary and should disappear as  healing takes place. Possible side effects include dry eye, sensitivity to glare, problems with night vision and/or blurred vision.
